Secret Garden Embroidery (What Delilah Did presents) by Sophie Simpson. ISBN:9781910231180

Having not done any cross-stitching for more years now than I care to remember, my 7 year old daughter has begun to show an interest in the craft and, of course, that meant I simply had to buy a new book! Sophie Simpson is the genius and talent behind the What Delilah Did embroidery creations and her books are simply stunning. From novice to professional, there is something for every level in her books and this delightful Secret Garden book also comes with four beautiful accompanying charts. With 15 projects in the one book, what better way to spend a weekend…

100 Things to know about Science  ISBN:9781409582182

My primary school aged children are like little sponges at the moment so when I saw these items in the recent Book People catalogue I knew they would love them. The Quest Adventures are perfect for kids who want that bit more from their books. As my daughter is loving Steve Jacksons Fighting Fantasy books at the moment, I thought these would be a perfect addition. With 12 books in the box set, there are an abundance of history, maths and science skills to test as you solve clues and answer the questions to complete the quest.

The 100 Things to know about Science explains itself in the title, but again is a visually attractive fun packed knowledge book which children can refer to time and time again. An Usborne book, it is a great way to make science seem more fun, especially for the more reluctant reader.

Brain Box Maths is a 10 minute brain challenge game designed to improve observation and memory skills (I’m done for then!) at the same time as reinforcing essential maths concepts. As a parent, I’m all for anything that will encourage a sense of fun with maths and I can’t wait to start using this. I think this is a cool way to help children out with their maths at home.

All items were purchased from the brilliant, and very well priced, BookPeople who can be found at http://www.thebookpeople.co.uk

Happy reading…
